Holiday Message!!

Here we are at the end of another year and the first thing I bet my comrade big guys are thinking is this: LOSING WEIGHT. It’s not as easy as it sounds. Just two words, right. We hear about it all the time; eat healthy and exercise. Okay, yeah right.

Let me say this. It did not take us one month or a couple of weeks to gain this weight so lets stop fooling ourselves into thinking that it would take the same amount of time to lose it. It is not as easy as people think.  It is also not our only characteristic that may merit changing.  We are also complex.

Why is losing weight the first and sometimes only New Year’s resolution people think a big guy should have? We are not weak. We have the power to do whatever we want to do. Let’s find and surround ourselves in 2011 with people who embrace our “bigness” and are not afraid of it.  This is my holiday message.
Stay tuned for more in 2011.

Happiness!

As I sit here thinking about my To Do List for the day, I can’t help but wonder about the meaning of happiness. The dictionary defines happiness as the quality or state of being happy. In addition, it also says good fortune, pleasure, contentment and joy. This is fascinating to me because the words used here to define happiness are themselves states of being. But what are they based in. These words and their meanings are relative. One can be content with living under a bridge somewhere. One can get joy from hurting animals. One can have good fortune at the expense of someone else’s misfortune. So I say this, happiness itself is also relative. Just some food for thought today. Stay Tuned.

Riding the bus

I was riding the bus this morning and I thought I was having a good start to my day. I got a seat and I was listening to Christmas songs, when suddenly a woman sits next to me and begins to complain about the "lack of space" I left for her. EXCUSE ME?

Well, I chose to almost go postal on this woman. Here I am, minding my own business, sitting quietly and she decides to mess up my flow. I told her she had a choice to sit in another seat. She then looked at me with such disdain and disgust. I then proceeded to give her the same look. At this point I did not like how my morning was turning out. She did get up and move. I then un-paused my music and continued on my journey to work, ignoring any future comments I'm sure she made.

Question: When did it become okay to be rude to strangers? I know that rudeness is not new but I still get surprised. Maybe it's the optimist in me. But I paid $2.25 just like everyone else and I deserve respect. I know my thighs lean into the seat next to me. I try to make room, but my anatomy, being a male, does not allow me but so much squeezing.

So to all the funky, rude people who mess with big people like me on the bus, I say this:

GET OVER IT AND SIT SOME WHERE ELSE.

Let’s Talk Coats!!

Finding the right coat can be a statement.  “I’m chillin’.”  “I’m feeling formal.”

Either way, the perfect coat is out there for us big guys too.

Cashmere is the best formal outterwear you can get. Yes, it’s expensive, but consider it as an investment for life.

Military style jackets and coats (not fatigues) are in now, so go for it.

Classics like pea coats and trench coats never go out of style and they can be essential.

For those cold and chilled out days with jeans and sneakers, a bomber jacket or leather coat can be ideal.

Trends do come and go, but there is nothing wrong with participating in the moment.  Variety is key.  I think with time and good research, we big guys can find great styles in coats.

Hey Big Guy!!

I just don't understand why people think it's okay to refer to or greet big men like, "Hey Big Guy!!!"  It's not nice to refer to or greet someone based on a characteristic like that.  How would it sound if I said, "Hey White Man!!" or "Hey Black Woman!!!"  It sounds insulting right.  Stay Tuned.

Casual Male

I’ve been shopping at this store for years.  It used to be known as Casual Male Big & Tall.  Their new name since 2005 is Casual Male XL.

I really like their clothing and sometimes you can find a nice sale.  Good quality styles that last a long time.  You can buy several pieces and mix and match.  Check them out at casualmale.com.

Holiday Sweaters

Here we are in the midst of the holiday season and what men look the best in are sweaters.  I like holiday sweaters.  Some are festive and others are fashionable.  So here’s a tip for my fellow big guys.  If you like sweaters like I do, then check out oldnavy.com.  They have very nice sweaters in holiday colors like red and green and classics like black, blue and gray.

The prices are reasonable and their sizes go up to XXXL, which is only found online.  So check them out and where them proudly.  Stay tuned.

The beginning

Well, This is new for me so bear with my venting.  I'm not odd to like fashionable apparel.  I'm not weird because I am interested in putting an outfit together that makes me feel good.  So, why is it so hard for big guys like me to find my size in the stores.  All you hear about is women and the clothing wars they encounter.  I'm here to say, what about the big guys?  Stay tuned.
